In our last post, we talked about a good time to get your roof fixed or replaced before the 2018 roofing season winds down.
If you are reading this, we can assume you took us up on the offer and are in the market to get a new roof before we head into what is supposed to be a “teeth-chattering” winter. (As an aside, it’s always good to have a new roof on your home, but especially so when the weather is brutal.)
As you wait for a representative from The Roof Company to come out to your residence to get all of the final details, let’s go over exactly what we are going to put on your roof during the process.
Shingles
This goes without saying, we hope. You will most likely put asphalt shingles on your roof. The Roofing Company uses CertainTeed shingles, which come in a wide variety of styles, including Landmark®, Grand Manor®, and XT 30 IR.
The noticeable difference between these three is the shape of the shingle, but each comes with its specific benefits, like weight and width. This ensures our customers have quite a few options to give their homes a great look.
Underlayments
Underlayments go below the shingles and provide a waterproof layer between your home and the shingle. They can prevent leaks from ice dams and rain that can sneak into vulnerable areas.
Accessories
Accessory shingles can be used to finish the ridges and hips of a roof. There are different options out there that are designed to complement the shingles you chose for your roof so that they don’t look out of place. CertainTeed manufactures hip and ridge accessories under the product names ShadowRidge® and Mountain Ridge®.
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention proper attic ventilation. A properly insulated roof is a healthy roof. When you’re getting your roof fixed or replaced, make sure you are adding attic vents to help with the ventilation. This ensures the insulation stays dry and your home temperature reasonable.
So there you have it: these are the components that make up a roof, and they are components you want to consider when you begin thinking about what to do with your existing roof.
